“Our War” by BlaK SundaY
Fronted by Juan Blak, the 2019 release of BlaK SundaY’s “Our War” is a testament to the band’s progressive message and aggressive sound. With a with a run-time of four minutes, intersecting issues of racism, classism, and sexuality are confronted with courageous baritone vocals, steadfast lyricism, and an ensemble of postpunk and gothic rock attitude.
Joining Juan Blak for this musical journey into the art of resistance are Jennifer Maupin Quentin Young, Jacob Cagen, and Ron Anderson. As Blak SundaY, they are ready to show the world that they are a force to be reckoned with. Additional songs include, “Chaos Lover”, “She” as well as “Midnight”.

The music video for their song “Our War” –also the title of the album– opens with a quote from African-American, human rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, and continues with a collage of contemporary clips from rallies, news broadcasts, dash cams, cell phones and more. The focus is broad, highlighting issues such as the Dakota Access Pipeline, #BlackLivesMatter, anti-fascism, and LGBTQ+ visibility. Juan Blak closes the video by telling the viewer, “This is our war and we’re bringing it to you.”
