A walk south from the Santa Monica Pier, a bicycle ride northwest from the Ballona Wetlands, or Bird ride away from Abbot Kinney, the beach-side neighborhood of Los Angeles’ Venice is home to surf, skate, and in recent years technology. The seaside neighborhood is a popular destination for both Angelinos and international guests.

Located on the western region of Los Angeles, Venice is a Lyft ride away from Downtown Los Angeles, and also accessible via local public transit including Los Angeles Metro and Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus. Keep in mind that even though the area is pedestrian friendly with a plethora of alleys canals, side streets and bicycle lanes, some intersections require extra caution while crossing, due to varying speed limits beyond the boardwalk.

For those staying along the beach in one of the area’s hotels, hostels or eclectic Air B’n’B’s, the bicycle path provides a scenic access route to neighboring beaches-include Inkwell, Santa Monica, the Will Rogers State Beach, Malibu, and Zuma to the North as well as Marina Del Rey, Dockwieler, and Redondo to the south–boating docks, farmers markets, restaurants, and more. Along the boardwalk itself there are plenty of pubs, an international selection of restaurants, as well as brick and mortar shops, beach vendors, and pop-up shops too.

The historic seaside neighborhood pays an architectural homage to the Italian city of which it is named after with its own Canals system; an ecosystem in which birds, plants, marine life and humans reside.

Throughout the year the boardwalk is host to a smorgasbord of events and activities, from impromptu Drum Circles, to pick up and competitive basketball games, along with skate jams, and feats of physical strength at Muscle Beach Venice. Just a short walk from the boardwalk are Beyond Baroque (681 Venice Boulevard) and the Venice Japanese American memorial monument (located at the intersection of Venice and Lincoln). After checking those places out, be sure to catch Venice Beach’s star attraction, its sunset. For those staying in the area, wrapping up an evening may begin with a warm fire.
